Shelter gets ready to go back home

A HOUSING charity is preparing to move back home after a major fire destroyed its Edinburgh headquarters.

Shelter Scotland was temporarily homeless following the blaze in May last year.

It has been operating from temporary offices in Edinburgh’s South Charlotte Street since the fire which damaged both floors of its offices.

After nine months of extensive refurbishment, the offices are now ready for the charity’s 40 permanent and temporary Edinburgh staff.

Director of Shelter Scotland, Graeme Brown, paid tribute to the local community for their widespread support.

He said: “Our staff and volunteers are eagerly preparing to move back to our headquarters on Monday to continue with our vital work.

“We’d like to send our heartfelt thanks to all the local people and organisations that showed great generosity at the time of the fire.

“Their kindness helped us get back on our feet quickly so that we could carry on our work aimed at helping the tens of thousands of homeless people across Scotland get back on their feet too.”
