Sex abuse victim anger at paedophile mum’s wedding

A child sex abuse victim has said she has been sickened after learning her paedophile mother is to marry her partner after she is released from prison.

Dana Fowley suffered at the hands of her grandfather, mother and up to 15 men who abused her and her sister over 12 years.

Her mother, Caroline Dunsmore, was given a 12-year jail term in 2007 – but under automatic release laws she will leave HMP Cornton Vale in June this year after serving eight years of her sentence.

Ms Fowley, who waived her right to anonymity, was horrified to learn that Dunsmore was planning to wed her long-term partner, Thomas Miller.

She claimed she recently saw Mr Miller in the St James Centre, where he told her she was “welcome” to attend a September ceremony in the Capital.

The 34-year-old, whose book on her traumatic experiences was a bestseller, said she “wanted to vomit” at the thought.

She added: “I was kind of stunned. I think that’s when it hit me that she’s going to be getting out.

“He approached me – I wouldn’t have spoken to him otherwise. He’s more than aware of the crimes she committed.”

The mum-of-three, who lives in Saughton, said she was disgusted that her mother was due to be released from prison after serving just eight years.

“She should have had life,” she said. “It’s not long enough. My sentence doesn’t end until I die. I will always remember it.

“I think it’s disgraceful, she has been to jail and now she’s going to come out and get married and be happy.

“They ruined my whole life.”

It is understood that Dunsmore plans to live in the Lochend area of the city with her partner of nine years.

Ms Fowley, who is working on a second book, said: “I’m still fighting for justice. At the end of the day, she’s getting out to get married. She left a million pieces to be picked up.”

The Scottish Government has announced plans to halt automatic release for prisoners serving time for serious offences after two-thirds of their sentence. But the changes, currently going through parliament, will only affect prisoners being sentenced after the new legislation comes into force.

Ms Fowley was raped almost daily from the age of five by Dunsmore and her late stepdad, Billy King, who were joined by a string of accomplices. Ringleaders Morris Petch and John O’Flaherty were jailed in 2007 for their part in the abuse.

Ms Fowley’s grandfather, William Dunsmore, was released from prison in 2009, after serving three-and-a-half years of a five-year sentence.

Two other men stood trial in connection with the abuse in 2009, but walked free when Dunsmore changed her evidence.
