Security scare for city chambers

A MAJOR security operation ahead of a council meeting at the City Chambers cost more than £1400 – and a series of items that could have been used as weapons were seized by staff from protesters.

A series of “potential projectiles”, two craft knives and a hypodermic needle were taken from people who wanted to view a debate on the privatisation of council services from the public gallery. Extra security staff were drafted in from private firms to provide an unprecedented security operation at the meeting last month.
