Sectarian law scrutiny starts

HOLYROOD'S justice committee was today beginning to take evidence on the proposed new law to tackle sectarianism.

Representatives from the police, church, legal profession and Scottish football have all been invited to give evidence to MSPs. Ministers want the law passed within two weeks.

Committee convener Christine Grahame said: "Due to the speed at which this important Bill is scheduled to go through parliament it is vital that we have independent scrutiny from key stakeholders."
