Second award for hero Pc

A POLICEMAN who revived a newborn baby will be presented with a meritorious award – the second of his career.

Pc Donald McFadyen, 42, was marshalling crowds at Bathgate Gala Day on Saturday, 5 June, when a man bounded up and pleaded with him to help a lifeless baby.

Seven-day-old Archie Greenwell sent his parents into a panic when he choked, stopped breathing and turned blue.

Mr McFadyen rushed to the house and brought the tot round by gently massaging his chest.

He said: "I was beginning to get worried but then he opened his eyes, had a bit of a cough and started blinking and looking around."

The newborn is back to full fitness following a visit to St John's Hospital.

Although Pc McFadyen has been in the police force for 21 years, he has never had to give CPR to anyone before.

The father-of-two previously received the accolade in 1993 after helping to evacuate residents from a burning block of flats in Livingston.
