Search stood down for man missing from yacht off Arran coast

The search for a man feared missing overboard from a yacht near Arran was stood down last night.

The alarm was first raised on Wednesday afternoon when the crew on a fishing vessel contacted Clyde Coastguard after they found an empty yacht in Kilbrannan Sound.

The search, including lifeboats, an RAF helicopter and the Coastguard, continued into the night and resumed at first light yesterday morning.

It was stood down yesterday afternoon after nothing was found.

Coastguard teams in Arran, Kames, Tarbet, Rothsay and Carradale searched the shoreline, while two lifeboats were in the water. The Royal Navy helicopter from Prestwick also aided the search.

The case has now been passed to Strathclyde Police, who have informed the man’s next of kin.
