Search for owner of stray exotic bird

An ANIMAL welfare charity is looking for the owner of an exotic bird found in a graveyard on New Year’s Day.

The pale-headed rosella parakeet was spotted by a man at the cemetery in Pentland Place, Kirkcaldy, at around midday.

He managed to coax it down from its perch before calling the Scottish SPCA.

The bird, which has been named Rainbow, is now being cared for at the charity’s rehoming centre in Balerno. Animal rescue officer Kieran Smart said: “A brightly coloured parakeet isn’t the kind of bird you’d expect to find in a graveyard.

“Thankfully, the gentleman who rescued Rainbow is a bird owner himself and he and his family were able to catch him without too much trouble.

“Rainbow is a striking yellow, blue and grey parakeet with a red tip on his tail. We don’t often see birds with this particular coloration, so if he does have an owner they should recognise him straight away.”
