Scout honoured for saving father

A 14-YEAR-OLD scout was due to be honoured yesterday after helping to save his father's life.

Lachlan Wallace moved his father Iain, a group scout leader into the recovery position when he fell unconscious after touching an unmarked electric fence.

He, along with his assistant beaver scout group leader Ceri Coates were both to be awarded the Chief Scout's Commendation for Meritorious Conduct for their bravery. Wallace later made a full recovery.

The annual Scottish Awards Day of The Scout Association, which recognises those who have conducted outstanding service to the movement and their local communities, was to take place at St Mary's Cathedral yesterday.

The Silver Cross, one of Scouting's highest honours, was to be awarded to group scout leader Ian Jones for his heroic actions in single handedly saving the life a woman who became trapped in her car that was rapidly being submerged in the Spynie Canal north of Elgin.

Scottish chief commissioner Eleanor Lyall said: "I am delighted that these three members of the movement have been recognised for their quick thinking."
