A SCOTTISH pensioner has revealed he received a letter almost 50 years after it was posted.

Allan Hunter, 71, from Darvel, East Ayrshire, was stunned when he received a letter from New York – but got an even bigger shock when he noticed the postmark, which read 7 April, 1964. “I couldn’t believe it,” he said.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “It is difficult to speculate what may have happened, but almost certainly it was put back in a postbox recently as we regularly check all our sorting offices.”
