1. SCOTTISH WILD CATS
With a population that's under threat of extinction, plans are afoot to reintroduce more into the wild, however, in the meantime, your best chance of seeing one is at the Highland Wildlife Park near Kingussie.
2. RED SQUIRRELS
Though their numbers are threatened by grey squirrels, Its not as difficult to see them in the wild as you might think. The forests in Moray, Aberdeenshire and Dumfries and Galloway are a great place to start.
3. PINE MARTENS
Cute though they may be, these tenacious little creatures are avid hunters - though elusive they can be sometimes be spotted in pine forests and wooded areas around the Highlands.
4. WILD HAGGIS
Nearly hunted to extinction during the great Burns Supper craze of the 1920s, haggis numbers have since exploded. Pictured here is a traditional haggis hunting party - the guns are just for show, haggis are caught using nets.
