Scottish Cup final: Police ‘delighted’ with fans’ behaviour despite 22 arrests

THE behaviour of thousands of Hibs and Hearts fans has been praised at the first all-Edinburgh Scottish Cup Final in 116 years.

Hearts supporters were celebrating at full-time as their side defeated rivals Hibernian 5-1 in the match at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

It was described as the “game of a lifetime” as the sides had not met in a cup final since 1896.

Strathclyde Police said there were 22 arrests in and around the stadium at the match, including six sectarian offences, six drink-related offences and nine breaches of the peace and a racially aggravated offence.

Match Commander Andy Bates said: “It was a great event and the police operation went very well.

“On the whole, I’m delighted with the behaviour of Hibs and Hearts fans at the ground.”
