Scots students left better off

STUDENTS in Scotland are significantly less in debt than their counterparts elsewhere in the UK, a new survey has found.

The 2012 UK Graduate Careers Survey shows average student across the UK is £19,400.

But debts recorded at St Andrews, Edinburgh, Strathclyde and Glasgow ranged from £10,000 to £15,700.

The report said the gap, which is likely to grow as a result of policy differences north and south of the Border, was due to Scottish undergraduates opting “to live at home for their studies” and not paying tuition fees.
