Scots rugby tune makes burst for chart glory

A SINGLE launched by Scotland’s Six Nations rugby squad has been tipped to soar up the Scottish charts.

A reworked version of classic pipe tune Highland Cathedral performed by Edinburgh-born team captain Kelly Brown claimed the number one spot in Amazon’s world music chart just 12 hours after its official release on Sunday.

The track also features backing vocals by centre Matt Scott, scrum-half Henry Pyrgos and prop forward Euan Murray. Gordon Campbell, managing director of Edinburgh-based record label The Music Kitchen, said Scotland’s crushing 34-10 victory over Italy at Murrayfield had helped propel the single to strong early download sales.

He said: “It’s a magnificent start to a great record – if all of Scotland get behind it there is no reason why it can’t make the official UK top 40 as well as being a Scottish chart-topper.”
