Scots MPs aim to aid post offices

AN INQUIRY into the potential effect of the Royal Mail privatisation is to be held by the Scottish Affairs select committee in Westminster amid growing concerns that it could lead to the closure of thousands of post offices.

Scottish Affairs chairman Ian Davidson said that his committee would look at proposals which protected the post office network and universal service, taking evidence from the industry, Scottish regions, union representatives and the government.

The committee intends to produce a report by Christmas to feed into the postal bill.
