Scotland to dig deep for gift to honour Queen’s Jubilee

A JUBILEE Garden will be planted in the grounds of Holyrood Palace as a permanent gift from the people of Scotland to the Queen to mark her Diamond Jubilee.

The garden, which will be planted by Historic Scotland with help from horticulture apprentices, will be marked by a commemorative plinth that will be ready in time for the Queen’s visit to Scotland in July.

The move was announced by First Minister Alex Salmond during a debate in the Scottish Parliament.

Mr Salmond praised the “dedication, impartiality and service” shown by the Queen throughout her 60-year reign.

He also announced a donation of £50,000 would be made to Veterans Scotland in the Queen’s name to help the charity improve support to Scotland’s veterans community in the jubilee year and beyond.
