Scot arrested after 7m cigarettes seized

A SCOTS driver has been arrested after border officials seized seven million illegally imported cigarettes from a lorry that arrived at Newhaven ferry port in East Sussex from Dieppe.

HM Revenue and Customs says, had the cigarettes reached the black market, it would have cost the Treasury 1.3 million in lost tax. The driver, 42, from Lanarkshire, was freed on bail.
