Sci-fi epic breaks the $1bn barrier

JAMES Cameron's science-fiction epic Avatar had another stellar weekend with $68.3 million (£42.46m) at the US box office, shooting past $1 billion (£621.7m) worldwide, only the fifth film to hit that mark.

Number one for the third weekend, Avatar raised its domestic US total to $352.1m (218.9m) after just 17 days.
