Schools’ roof work to start

Two East Lothian primary schools are to benefit from £78,000 to improve insulation and reduce carbon emissions.

Work on Whitecraig Primary and Pencaitland Primary has been awarded to a Fife roofing contractor and will take three weeks to complete.

The schools’ roofs are in poor condition and are vulnerable to heat loss.

Whitecraig SNP councillor Stuart Currie said: “This is welcome news both in terms of the improved insulation and the reduction in carbon emissions.

“I am pleased that the work will be getting under way and I look forward to the job being completed with the improved energy performance it will bring.”

However, Mr Currie criticised the administration’s decision not to award the contract to an East Lothian firm.
