School’s 100th birthday gets royal seal of approval

PRIMARY children have received a letter from the Queen after a cheeky request for a birthday card to mark their school’s
100th birthday.

The pupils at Dirleton Primary School, in East Lothian, begged the monarch for the congratulatory message by sending off a colourfully decorated letter.

To their amazement, they received the royal seal of approval when a letter from Buckingham Palace was delivered.

The children’s letter was decorated with crowns, flowers and soldiers, and also included colourful drawings of Queen Victoria, the Duchess of Cambridge and the Queen herself.

Just three weeks later they received a reply from the Queen’s lady-in-waiting who passed on Her Majesty’s congratulations and good wishes.

She said: “The Queen wishes me to thank you for your letters you have decorated so nicely.

“The Queen thought it kind of you to tell her that you will be celebrating the centenary of your school in September and Her Majesty hopes that you will have a very happy day.

“The Queen was interested to hear about your school and pleased to know you are so happy there.”
