School in Rutherglen area of Glasgow evacuated in chemical spill alert

A SECONDARY school in the Rutherglen area of Glasgow was evacuated yesterday following reports of a chemical spill.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue was called to Stonelaw High School at 2:20pm after what they believe was a chemical incident in a laboratory.

A spokesperson said the situation had been contained. However, firefighters and safety advisers remained on site to carry out “atmospheric monitoring”.

It is understood a member of staff was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

It is not yet known when the school will be given the all-clear.
