School runners raise £11k in honour of late deputy head

Pupils and staff from Craigmount High School have raised more than £11,000 for Cancer Research UK in memory of their late deputy headteacher.

A total of 57 staff and students took part in October’s Bupa Great Edinburgh Run in memory of Beth McDonald, who died last July after a short battle with cancer.

Mrs McDonald was described by headteacher Dr John Campbell as “a lively and vivacious sort of person”.

The school runners, along with Mrs McDonald’s husband, Malcolm, have now gathered all their sponsorship money and raised a total of £11,659, which has been presented to the cancer charity.

Craigmount pupils are continuing to raise money with a musical production called Hit the Stage, which is on at the Church Hill Theatre in Morningside until Saturday.

The show features hits from stars including Michael Jackson, Adele, Abba and The Beatles.
