The Cosla Excellence Awards are held annually and aim to showcase “the very best of Scottish local government”.

Councillor Peter Boyes, cabinet member for education, said: “I am absolutely delighted to hear that Newbattle High School won the prestigious Solace Best Team category at the Cosla Excellence Awards.

“This award is a tribute to the hard work, skill and dedication of the pupils, teachers and parents at Newbattle. I want to congratulate the whole school community at Newbattle on their remarkable success.”

As the Academies project developed, S3 and S4 pupils were able to select up to two subjects in which they could specialise by attending extra lessons.
