Satanist says he penned threats to kill, maim and terrorise

A SATANIST targeted high-profile celebrities and threatened terror attacks on Glasgow Airport, a church and a primary school, a court has heard.

Alan Linton threatened to kill pop star Cheryl Cole at a Girls Aloud concert in Glasgow's SECC in May last year. The 32-year-old also claimed he was going to shoot Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc in letters he wrote to the SECC and a newspaper.

Linton – who signed the letters "disciple of Satan" – also wrote notes to Celtic Park claiming he was going to blow up the stadium and included a Joker from a pack of cards in the envelope.

He also threatened to "wipe out Christianity" by carrying out a terrorist campaign at Glasgow Airport last summer and threatened to blow up a church and "watch as evil followers die".

A note was also sent to a Lanarkshire primary school threatening to rape and kill female pupils.

At the High Court in Glasgow yesterday, Linton, a remand prisoner at Barlinnie, admitted threatening to blow up Celtic Park and kill the players and staff on 1 April last year.

He also pled guilty to threatening to kill Cole and Boruc by sending threatening letters to newspapers and the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, Glasgow, on 7 May.

Linton also threatened to kill and indecently assault pupils at a Catholic primary school in Motherwell on 1 April last year, and threatened to blow up an Asda store in Newmains, Wishaw, on 6 May.

He further pled guilty to writing threatening letters to St Athanasius Church in Carluke, Lanarkshire, and Glasgow Airport in June, last year.

The court heard all the notes were linked to Linton – who has a previous conviction for a sexually aggravated breach of the peace – by his fingerprints and DNA.

Judge Lady Smith deferred sentence for background reports and a risk assessment.
