Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday heard that Malcolm Boyes, 42, disconnected the CCTV on two occasions at O'Briens Sandwich Bars in Edinburgh and Dundee in order to take cash.
He admitted embezzling 4,071 from Edinburgh's High Street branch and 3,558 from Dundee's Overgate Centre store on 25 October last year. The court heard Boyes had previously served a custodial sentence for a theft of 23,000 from an employer in Portsmouth.

Hide AdDefence agent Fergus Christie said: "He was employed as general manager and his duties involved looking after the two shops.
"He is suffering from depression. He explains his actions because of the depression and he felt un-rewarded and took matters into his own hands."
Sheriff Derrick McIntyre told Boyes he had reduced the prison sentence from 12 months to reflect his guilty plea.
