Sale rings up £4,000 for charity shop

A CAPITAL charity shop raised more than £4,000 on the first day of its annual January sale.

Among the items up for grabs at Shelter in Stockbridge were delicate masks, a vintage Jean Muir dress and an abandoned 2,000 engagement ring, which fetched almost 900.

Manager Peter Jew said: "We were over the moon with the sheer volume of people who came down for the first day of the annual Stockbridge sale.

"It has fast become an Edinburgh institution and we're already looking forward to seeing what items we can put up for sale next year."

Mr Jew added: "Thank you to everyone who ventured out, despite the weather, for the first day of the sale and through the rest of the week.

"I'd also like to thank those people who supported us through donations, in particular the donor of the diamond ring."
