'Sadness' at death of racehorse trainer Peter Monteith

racehorse owner David Johnson has expressed his shock and sadness at the death of trainer Peter Monteith.

Mr Johnson, who had a dozen horses with Mr Monteith, said he was devastated and had not come to terms with the news.

Mr Monteith, 61, was found dead at his home on Sunday night after police were called to the trainer's yard in Rosewell, Midlothian, following an emergency call. He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he was pronounced dead. Police said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances.

Mr Johnson said: "It's devastating news for all of Scottish racing and his family. It's just unbelievable, and I haven't come to terms with it. You speak to him one day and the next he's not here anymore.

"I don't know the circumstances, but our thoughts at this time are with his wife."
