Runners step out for city charity race

RUNNERS pounded the Capital's streets yesterday in the Chris Hoy Marathon.

More than 4,000 people took part in the 13-mile race, although the Olympic triple gold medal winner could not be there as he was on honeymoon. On Saturday he married Sarra Kemp at St Giles' Cathedral on the Royal Mile.

Despite the rain, runners were not deterred from entering, though 200 people were prevented from travelling to Edinburgh by the volcanic ash cloud.

It is hoped the race will make over 500,000 for charity.
