Runners brave elements in Edinburgh half-marathon

MORE than 5,500 runners from around the world took to the streets of Edinburgh for the city’s second annual Rock ’n’ Roll Half Marathon.

Participants travelled from the US, Australia, Brazil, Norway, Singapore and Finland to take part in the race yesterday, as well as those from Scotland and the UK.

They were treated to live music every mile along the route, which took in The Mound, the Royal Mile and the Scottish Parliament building.

Winners were Bryan Mackie, with a time of 1:15:25, and Holly Rush, who finished in 1:21:53. The pair both scooped a £250 prize.

Event director Shannon Davis said: “Following the success of last year’s event, we are delighted to be back in Edinburgh.

“The atmosphere has been fantastic and we hope everyone had a great day.”

The Rock ’n’ Roll Edinburgh Half Marathon supports a number of charities including Cancer Research UK, Team In Training, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Stroke Association and Children 1st.
