Rugby star’s trial on hold

The assault trial of Scotland rugby player Max Evans has been rescheduled.

The 28-year-old former Glasgow Warriors star was expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday, however, it is understood his trial will now start on a later date.

Evans is charged with assaulting Alasdair McCaig at the Capital’s Lulu nightclub on August 1 2010. It is alleged that he struck Mr McCaig in the face with a glass to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent injury.

Evans, who currently plays for French side Castres, is on bail.
