Royal Marine injured in car crash dies in hospital

A ROYAL Marine injured after his car hit a telegraph pole and rolled into a field died in hospital yesterday.

Carl Harrison, of 45 Commando, was driving a Vauxhall Astra on the A933 Arbroath to Friockheim road, near the Royal Marines base, RM Condor, in Angus, when the car left the road at about 3am on Monday.

The 24-year-old, from Bromsgrove in Worcestershire, was cut free by firefighters from Tayside Fire and Rescue. He was unconscious and was treated by paramedics, before being taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with a serious head injury, a broken leg and other internal injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

He died yesterday afternoon from his injuries, Tayside Police said. A spokeswoman added: "Our thoughts are with Carl's family and colleagues at 45 Commando at this very sad time."

It is understood Mr Harrison's mother travelled to Scotland on Monday to be at the hospital.
