Royal Family album: Dundee first for exhibition

DUNDEE will be the first city in the UK to host a prestigious exhibition of portraits of the Queen by leading photographer Cecil Beaton to celebrate the monarch's Diamond Jubilee.

The exhibition of photographs from the Victoria and Albert Museum's archive of Beaton's collection of Royal portraits, such as this one of the Queen cradling Prince Andrew as a baby, is the first in a series of partnership projects between the city's McManus Art Gallery and Museum and the V&A in the run-up to the opening of the new V&A on the banks of the Tay. The exhibition, at the McManus gallery, runs from 30 September until 8 January.

Culture secretary Fiona Hyslop said: "The V&A will be a stunning landmark building on Dundee's waterfront, and government funding is a reflection of the significance we attach to this project as a showcase for our creative industries and as a magnet for visitors."
