Another pair of horses, which were also in the building at the time, apparently escaped unharmed after the snow covered roof caved in at Edinburgh and Lasswade Riding Stables at around 7.30pm last night.
Fire crews from Penicuik and Newcraighall used lifting gear to free the animals.
