The man was pushing the youngster in the buggy in Boblingen Way, in Glenrothes, Fife, when he was approached by a man who tried to steal his mobile phone.

This was unsuccessful and the suspect is thought to have been injured in the face during the incident yesterday afternoon

Police Scotland are trying to trace the man, who is described as being white, aged in his 40s, with an unkempt appearance and wearing a dark coloured beanie hat, a black shell suit style jacket with a white logo on the chest and dark trousers.

He was last seen running off towards the Tanshall area of the town, with officers keen to speak to a dog walker who was seen in Boblingen Way a short time before the attempted robbery, who was walking a small, gold-coloured dog which had a red jacket on.

Detective Constable Kieran Marsh said: “This was a shocking incident against a father and his young child in a fairly secluded part of Glenrothes.

“This particular path is commonly used by dog walkers and cyclists and I would ask anyone who was in the area and who saw the suspect either before or after this incident to please get in touch with police.”
