Robbers on the run after bookie raid

ARMED robbers who held up a bookmakers and fled with less than £100 are on the run.

The two men struck at a Ladbrokes on Crichton Place, Leith at around 6.35pm on Thursday.

Four male customers were placing bets and watching TVs when the robbers entered.

One of them placed a plastic bag on the counter while the other held a long object concealed in a black bag.

They demanded cash from a 23-year-old staff member who handed over a two-figure sum. The suspects were last seen heading towards Albert Street.

Detective Sergeant Lyle Shaw said: “We believe the ­suspects wanted it to appear they had a firearm.”

The first suspect was white, 5ft 11in tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a dark blue hat, blue hooded top with white laces and zip, a dark-coloured body warmer with a light-grey hood, dark jeans and dark footwear His face was covered with a maroon scarf.

The second suspect was white, 5ft 8in tall ,of slim build. He was wearing an olive green Ralph Lauren baseball cap, light-grey hooded top , blue jeans, dark footwear and carrying the bag. His face was ­covered with a striped scarf.
