Robber foiled in car park

POLICE are hunting a robber who demanded cash from a man in a supermarket car park in Newhaven.

The victim was forced to his car at a branch of Asda on Sandpiper Drive by the attacker, who claimed he was armed with a knife. The robber walked off empty-handed after being startled by another customer.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident, which took place at 3:50 on Christmas Eve.

The robber, said to be under the influence of drink or drugs, was described as a white, male European in his mid-50s, of heavy build and 5ft 6in.
