Road deaths on the rise

The number of people in the Lothians killed in road accidents reached 12 between April and December last year, according to new figures.

The deaths represent a rise on the same period the year before, when eight lives were lost.

Another 214 suffered serious injuries in road accidents, compared with 219 in April to December 2010.

The number of minor injuries in Lothian and Borders totalled 1571 for the same period, down on the previous total of 1718.
