Rise in award participation

THE NUMBER of youngsters in the Capital taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award has increased over the last two years.

Just over 1,000 young people took part in the award in 2007-8, with the figure rising by 19 per cent to more than 1,200 in 2008-9.

There has also been a 54 per cent in the number of youngsters achieving bronze awards.
