Restaurant named best in category

A DALKEITH eaterie has been crowned the Best South Asian restaurant in Scotland.

Itihaas Restaurant on Eskbank Road was presented with the award, run by Spice Times magazine, at a gala dinner in Essex.

Itihaas, which specialises in Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine, attracted more than half the votes from Spice Times readers and members of the public.

In October, the same restaurant was voted the best Bangladeshi restaurant in Scotland by the Bangladeshi Caterers' Association and is one of four finalists in the Best Indian category in the 2011 Scottish Restaurant of the Year Awards.

"It has been marvellous and encouraging to have been given such recognition not only by our customers but by our peers in the ethnic restaurant business," said Matin Khan, director of the restaurant.

Itihaas has been open since 2007.
