Residents urged to recycle

Midlothian Council has called on residents to recycle more, as part of its pledge to support Recycle Week.

Running until Sunday, Recycle Week is a Zero Waste Scotland initiative which aims to encourage householders to put waste to good use and recycle a little more.

Councillor Wilma Chalmers, cabinet member for commercial services, said: "By making small changes to our lifestyle and habits, recycling more is something that most of us can easily do.

"Most people are already making a commendable effort to recycle, but with the wide variety of materials suitable for recycling, the amount of rubbish we send to landfill could definitely still be reduced."
