Research unit tackles ovarian cancer threat

A CANCER unit in Edinburgh is to play a key role in UK-wide research into a common killer of women.

The Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre at the Western General will join other experts in a bid to beat ovarian cancer. It is hoped the initiative will create a high-quality tissue and bio-specimen bank, targeting issues surrounding cancers which return after treatment.

Dr Charlie Gourley, from the centre which is in partnership with Edinburgh University, said: “We are grateful to Ovarian Cancer Action for giving us the opportunity to investigate genetic changes that contribute to chemotherapy resistance.”
