Rescue bid to free entangled humpback whale off east coast

A rescue effort is under way to free an entangled whale off the east coast.

The whale was spotted yesterday by crew on a fishing boat off Dunbar, East Lothian.

It got caught in the boat’s fishing gear but was later freed, a coastguard spokesman said.

But earlier today the whale, thought to be a humpback, got caught up again in gear from a second boat.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue is organising the operation and an RNLI lifeboat is standing by.
