‘Remorseful’ drunk racist is fined £200

A RACIST who unleashed a stream of abused at staff in an Indian takeaway was too drunk to be charged by police.

Livingston Sheriff Court was told that Craig Saunders insulted staff at Bathgate’s Kurry King in West Lothian because they refused payment by bank card.

Jobless Saunders, 27, from Bathgate, took exception to being asked for cash and began to shout and swear at the two members of staff. Saunders pleaded guilty to acting in a racially aggravated manner and causing alarm and offence.

Donna Murphy, defending, said “He’s never come to the attention of the court before. He’s very remorseful and does regret his actions.”

Fining Saunders £200, Sheriff Douglas Kinloch told him: “People working in shops and so on shouldn’t have to put up with this type of behaviour.”
