Relics to go on display

Precious relics found in the cremation ashes of the Buddhist masters are to go on show in the Capital this weekend.

The relics resemble pearl-like crystals and Buddhists believe they “embody the Buddha’s spiritual qualities of compassion and wisdom”. They will be displayed at Edinburgh University’s Chaplaincy Centre from tomorrow until Sunday.

Visitors will be able to see the crystals inside display cases surrounding a life-size golden statue of the Maitreya Buddha and will be invited to “participate in a blessing ceremony”.

Neill Walker, of Edinburgh International Centre for Spirituality and Peace, who is organising the event, said: “The Tour of the Buddha’s relics to Edinburgh provides a unique opportunity for participants to experience inspiration and healing.”
