Referendum is a grey area for decision on green bank

THE SNP’s promised independence referendum is casting uncertainty over the location of the UK Green Investment Bank, a city MP has claimed.

Edinburgh West Liberal Democrat MP Mike Crockart, who has long campaigned for the new bank to be based in the Capital, met Business Secretary Vince Cable in a bid to find out when a decision on its location will be made.

He secured a promise that Dr Cable would meet Sir Adrian Montague, who chairs the advisory group on the bank, to discuss the timescale for the decision.

Mr Crockart said: “The Business Secretary recognises that Edinburgh has a strong case. The one issue, however, that is clearly still causing uncertainty over Edinburgh’s bid, is the independence referendum planned by the Scottish Government.

“This is yet another reason why the First Minister should stop delaying and call their referendum as soon as possible.”
