Red alert for light jumpers

TRAFFIC cameras which deter “amber gamblers” have been upgraded to also clamp down on speeding, it has been revealed.

The new safety devices have been installed at six locations across the city, meaning motorists who speed through junctions to avoid missing green lights will be fined and handed three points on their licence.

Lothian Safety Camera Partnership said the new cameras would replace a number of “outdated” ones.

It takes the total number of traffic light cameras in the Capital to 22, all of which are in built-up areas.
