Rector slams fees policy

THE new rector of Edinburgh University has heavily criticised the institution’s decision to introduce fees of £9000 per year for students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Peter McColl, who was appointed yesterday, described a £36,000 degree as “a disgrace” and said access should not depend on the ability to pay.

In an interview with the Evening News he said it had been a “mistake to put universities in a position where they can introduce fees of £9000 for rest of the UK students”.
