Record order for bankrupt

A BANKRUPT debtor has had the longest ever recorded Bankruptcy Restrictions Order in Scotland imposed on him.

Derek Carlyle from Hamilton, Lanarkshire, has been placed under serious financial restrictions until 2024.

Mr Carlyle was declared bankrupt in 2009 following a court petition by Jewson builders’ merchants. In August 2008, he sold a development property in Bothwell and shortly afterwards deposited £563,941.70 in his father’s bank account – an account controlled by Mr Carlyle.

The orders offer protection to creditors and impose restrictions on debtors who have acted inappropriately either before, or during their bankruptcy.
