Rebus set for return to his Capital beat

IT WAS feared that Scotland's most famous fictional detective had investigated his last case.

But Ian Rankin may yet return to his Edinburgh beat despite Detective Inspector John Rebus retiring two years ago.

The Edinburgh writer yesterday told fans that he had rediscovered his love for Rebus and his long-suffering colleague, Siobhan Clarke, after penning a short story on the pair for a charity event earlier this year.

Mr Rankin, 50, said: "It was for a charity night at the Caledonian Brewery, and I decided to set it there. It features Rebus and Siobhan, and starts with them on a brewery tour.

"Their guide tells them a ghost story, and this starts Rebus on yet another adventure."
