‘Re-education’ for thug who battered his partner

A THUG has been branded a danger to women after repeatedly battering his partner during a five-day rampage.

Joseph McInally attacked and threatened Lisa McManus during a series of attacks in their home over new year 2011.

Livingston Sheriff Court heard the 29-year-old accused held “very old-fashioned and entrenched views about women and their place in society”.

McInally of Broxburn, West Lothian, was yesterday put under supervision for two-and-a-half years and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty to assault and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner.

Sheriff Martin Edington told him: “These charges are serious enough to not only merit a prison sentence but a lengthy one.

“But I think society would be better served by you being re-educated in your behaviour, not over a period of hours but over a period of years.”
