RBS bonuses under attack

RBS bosses are under fire today over staff bonus payments after new figures showed the bank had fallen back into the red with losses of £1.4 billion.

The bank said the third-quarter loss came largely after an 858 million charge on its own debt to the UK government.

There was concern that the bank had not done enough to curb its bonus culture as its compensation ratio - staff pay and bonuses as a percentage of revenue - is set to rise to 34 per cent from 25 per cent a year ago.
